Okta Verify for Desktops and Laptops

Setting up and using the Okta Verify desktop apps on Windows and Mac devices.

Okta Verify 

Okta Verify's desktop app if a way for users with out a phone to have a way to verify their account to meet MFA requirements or for those with phone apps to a faster way to verify on a specific device than a phone push. It works with Biometrics settings under Touch ID & Password on MacOS devices and Windows Hello features on Windows devices. 

Once installed devices with the desktop version of Okta Verify will have another option for verifying their identity during the login process called Okta FastPass.

Getting Started with Okta Verify for MacOS

Touch ID can be setup in Settings before installing the software or when it prompts you to setup Touch ID after the install.

To set it up in advance just go to System Settings and then Touch ID & Password and enable "use Touch ID to unlock your Mac" to enable the ability to login with a fingerprint.

To setup a finger print just hit the "Add Fingerprint" button and follow the onscreen instructions. 

You must download/enroll in the Okta Verify App through the Apple store from Okta Verify on Apple Store:

 

After the program is launched for the first time you will want to use the "Get Started option" from the two available choices.

Then enter "https://my.gvsu.edu" into the sign-in url field like in the image below and hit "Next" to launch your default web browser.

Login with your user name to enable Touch ID login for Okta Verify. If you don't have touch ID it will first prompt you to turn it on and take you to that menu and you can scroll back up for instructions.

After this you can use the Okta FastPass option mentioned before to login using your finger print.

Getting Started with Okta Verify for Windows

The windows version requires Windows Hello to work. That limits it to working on Windows 10 and Windows 11.  You can find Windows Hello under "Sign-in options" in settings or a prompt will ask you to set it up after you finishing setting up your account.  You can use any of the options here to verify. Currently these features are managed on GVSU owned devices, but can be changed on personal devices.
