Switching Computer Sources for DCIH505 Lab Station Displays

The lab stations in DCIH505 include a USB-C cable if you'd like to use the station's display as a second screen for a personal laptop or device.

Procedure

  1. Open the lab station desk, and plug in the USB-C cable in to your personal laptop or device.

  2. You can press the KVM Switch Button located on the flip up section of the desk to switch video sources if your device's output does not show on the station's display within a few seconds.
  3. When you're done, press the KVM Switch Button again as a courtesy to the next student who may intend to use the lab station computer.

Note: the keyboard and mouse will not pass through to your personal device when plugged in at the lab station.

Troubleshooting

The lab station computer is not waking up/not showing on the display

It's likely that the KVM switch was left on the input for the USB-C cable. Press the KVM Switch Button located on the flip up section of the desk to switch video sources. You will want to press a few keys on the keyboard or move the mouse between switching input to attempt to wake up the lab station computer as those signals will only be received by the computer when the KVM has that input selected.
