Create a Journal Item

When to Use?

Journals are ideal for individual projects or creating personal spaces for students to communicate privately with you. Follow the instructions below, or watch the video, to learn how to create a journal in Blackboard Ultra.

Procedure

  1. On the Course Content page, select the plus sign where you want to add a journal.
  2. Select Create. Under Participation and Engagement, select Journal.
  3. Provide a meaningful title.
  4. Add a prompt to set expectations and guidelines to get students off to a good start. You can use the options in the editor to format text, attach files, and embed multimedia.
  5. When you’re finished, select Save.
  6. To make a journal count for a grade, select the Settings icon. Then select Grade journal. Set the due date, maximum points, and optionally, add a rubric.
  7. When you are finished, select Save.
  8. Finally, set the visibility options. Students won’t see the journal until you choose to show it.
