Installing Network Printers on a Macintosh

When to Use?

Use this document to assist with the installation of network printers on your device.

Procedure

  1. Open the GVSU Software application in one of the following ways:
    • Select the application from the launchpad (see the first 2 images)
    • Search for the application by pressing the command and spacebar keys together at the same time (see the second 2 images).

  1. Using the search bar in the top left corner, enter the building and room number assigned to the printer. For example, if the printer was in the Performing Arts Center & in Room 1300, you would search for PAC 1300.
  2. Click the Install or Reinstall button on the printer you wish to install.

  1. If you cannot find your network printer, contact the GVSU IT Service Desk to create a ticket for the Desktop Support Team.
  2. Send a test document to the printer to verify you are able to print successfully.
    • The easiest way to do this would be to print a word document or open the print queue and select send a test print
    • If you are unable to print to the printer, you should attempt to install or update your printer drivers. If you need assistance with this, you can reference our documentation called Installing drivers on a Macintosh.

 

Sending an Official Test Print:

  1. Click on the Apple Icon in the top left corner of the screen then click on the System Preferences field.

  1. Click on the Printers & Scanners sub-menu.

  1. Click on the printer you would like to test, then select Open Print Queue.

  1. From the top menu bar, select the Printer tab, then select Print test Page.
