Screen Only Recording for Respondus Monitor

When to Use?

Instructors now have the option to record only a student's screen during an online assessment, no webcam is required. This is especially useful for in-classroom exams where the instructor wants to observe how a student answers questions. For example, an instructor might like to see how a student uses Excel to analyze a problem, or how a short essay was developed by the student.

Procedure

  1. Access the Lockdown Browser Dashboard

    • Go to your course in Blackboard Learn Ultra.

    • In the Details & Action menu select Books and Tools. In the list of available tools select Respondus.

  2. Click the dropdown menu for the Exam that requires Screen Recording.

    • Click Settings to open the LockDown Browser options.

  3. Configure the Lockdown Browser and Monitor settings for the exam.

    • Check the box to Require Lockdown Browser for this exam.

    • Check the box to Require Respondus Monitor for this exam.

    • In the Monitor settings, you will see three options for identity verification:

      1. Webcam Only

      2. Webcam + Screen (traditional Monitor)

      3. Screen Only

  4. Choose “Screen Only”

    • Select Screen Only to record only the student’s screen activity.

    • Optionally, add instructions for students explaining what “Screen Only” entails.

  5. Save the Exam

    • Click the Save + Close button.

Students will now be required to use LockDown Browser, but no webcam will be needed. Only their screen activity will be recorded.
