LastPass Removal/Decomission Plan - Action Required by 12/04/23

When to Use?

This article outlines the strategy Grand Valley State University will implement for the decommissioning of LastPass. We have transitioned to 1Password as our preferred password management solution and will cease using LastPass. Consequently, all users previously utilizing LastPass are required to either migrate their data or delete it from LastPass before December 4, 2023.

Procedure

1. Migrate from LastPass to 1Password, including your vaults, passwords, notes/etc.

2. If you have removed all your data and would like to have your LastPass account deleted, please use the documentation below. This automated process will delete your LastPass account.

3. GVSU will notify users still requiring to delete their LastPass accounts prior to the December 4th, 2023, deletion date. Three emails will be sent on the following dates: 
    
   • Email reminder 1: October 30th, 2023
   • Email reminder 2: November 12th, 2023
   • Email reminder 3 (final notice): November 27th, 2023​​​​

If you have not transferred your data from LastPass by December 4th, 2023, it will be permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. As a result, you must take action before December 4th, 2023.
