When to Use?
If a "Stop Sign" unexpected error appears when opening the LockDown Browser Dashboard, it’s likely due to an unsupported symbol in one or more of your assignment or test titles, or the course title.
Procedure
To resolve this error, check the course title and the titles of all assignments and tests within the course. If you find any special characters or symbols, remove them and try accessing the dashboard again.
Tip: Use multiple browsers when checking for these symbols. Firefox often displays problematic characters more reliably than Chromium-based browsers like Chrome or Edge.
Below is an example of an unsupported symbol or image in a test title.

Long test titles can also potentially cause issues with the Respondus LockDown Browser Dashboard. While there is no strict character limit, it's recommended to keep test or assignment titles between 15–40 characters to reduce the risk of errors. Ideally, aim for 51–55 characters or fewer, as shorter titles tend to work more reliably.
To be safe:
- Keep test titles concise
- Avoid special characters (stick to plain text)
- Test access to the dashboard after creating or renaming a test
If you're running into an issue and suspect the title length, try shortening the title and reloading the dashboard to see if it resolves the error.
