When I Log Into the STRATUS Webpage, It's Blank

A STRATUS webpage with no environments to choose from

If you log into the STRATUS webpage, and there are no environments to choose from, there are a few possibilities as to why:

  • You may not be using the right account:
    • If you are a faculty/staff member taking a course, make sure to sign in with your student account.
  • You are not enrolled in a course using STRATUS this semester.
  • You've recently enrolled in a STRATUS course, and the automated assignment processes have not caught up.
    • It can take a day or two for add/drop registration information to be available for the assignment processes.

If these scenarios do not match yours or you feel that your lack of access may be in error, for further assistance, please fill out the STRATUS Support Form.

Remote Desktop Connection error with the message The connection was denied because the user account is not authorized for remote login

You might see this error when trying to connect to STRATUS with an RDP file you've successfully used before. Like the previous scenario of the mostly blank STRATUS Webpage screen, there are similar possibilities:

  • You may not be using the right account:
    • If you are a faculty/staff member taking a course, make sure to sign in with your student account.
  • You are not enrolled in a course using STRATUS this semester.
  • You've recently enrolled in a STRATUS course, and the automated assignment processes have not caught up.

macOS error "There is no application set to open the document..."

macOS error with the message there is no application set to open the document example-file-from-stratus.rdp

If you're receiving this message on your Mac, it's likely you haven't downloaded the Microsoft Remote Desktop app from the Mac App Store. Download the app from the Mac App Store and open the .rdp file that was previously downloaded.

Please make sure to review the guide, How to Connect to a STRATUS Remote Desktop Connection, to make sure you are following the proper steps.

...the Connection Broker couldn't validate the settings specified in your RDP file.

Remote Desktop Connection error with the message Your computer can't connect to the remote computer because the connection broker couldn't validate the settings specified in your RDP file. Contact your network administrator for assistance.

It's likely that you have an old ".rdp" file from an older instance of STRATUS. Log into the STRATUS Webpage and download a new file for your environment.

See the guide, How to Connect to a STRATUS Remote Desktop Connection for full instructions.

I'm using my work device, and I can't connect to STRATUS

If you're using a work device (as opposed to a personally owned and managed device) it's possible that your employer may be blocking unknown/unapproved remote desktop connections from their network, or by a restriction on the device itself. You can try to troubleshoot this by connecting on a device that would be unlikely to have such restrictions such as another personal device—even a cell phone or tablet, a friend or family member's personal device, etc.), or from a network that is unlikely to have such restrictions—like your home network, your cellular phone's hotspot, etc.
