When to Use?
This article can be used as a guide to 'forget' additional Wi-Fi networks on a macOS device
Procedure
macOS devices store a list of known wireless networks (SSIDs) and will automatically connect to nearby Wi-Fi networks when they are in range and deemed usable by the computer. Students should always use either the 'GV-Student' network, or the 'eduroam' network when on campus. They are functionally the same network. The screenshot below shows a macOS device that has too many known wireless networks. Computers can and will 'hop' between networks which cause user experience issues.
The 'preference' of these know networks is followed from first to last as indicated in the image above. Click + hold on GV-Student and drag it to the top of the list for it to be most preferred while on campus.
Follow the steps below to 'forget' or remove known networks other than GV-Student or eduroam.
Click on 'Settings' > 'Network'
Click on 'Wi-Fi' > 'Advanced'
Select all networks that are NOT GV-Student one at a time. Click the '-' symbol to forget them.
4a.
Alternatively, you can hold down the 'control' key and select multiple networks at once to forget.
Once all wireless networks other than GV-Student (or eduroam, choose one) are forgotten, GV-Student (or eduroam, choose one) should be at the top of the list. Click and drag GV-Student (or eduroam) to the top of the list if it's not first. This will ensure that your computer prefers this network while on campus.
Once finished, click 'OK'. Then on the Network window, click 'Apply'.
Complete! This will ensure that your macOS device prefers to connect to GV-Student while on campus.
