Important Notice Regarding VPN Usage and GVSU Resources
Our security measures, including Okta's recent implementation of blocking potentially harmful VPNs, are designed to protect against malicious attempts. Unfortunately, some private or anonymous VPN services can trigger these security protocols and result in unintended access issues. To ensure the security of your account and avoid disruptions, please follow these guidelines:
- Use GVSU-Provided VPN (Ivanti Secure Access): If you need to use a VPN, please use Ivanti Secure, GVSU's official VPN service, which is fully compatible with our security protocols and will not be restricted.
- No Secondary VPN on GVSU Equipment: Please do not install any personal or secondary VPNs on GVSU-provided or imaged equipment. Only the official GVSU VPN should be used on these devices to ensure security and compatibility with GVSU resources.
- Avoid Using Personal or Anonymous VPNs: Refrain from using non-GVSU VPN services when connecting to GVSU resources, as they can interfere with our security measures and lead to account access problems.
- Direct Connection: Whenever possible, connect directly to GVSU resources using a secure and trusted network for the best security and access.
Recommended VPNs for Personal Devices and Non-GVSU Resource Access
If you need a VPN for personal use, the following services are reputable and secure for general Internet usage, but should not be used when accessing GVSU resources:
- NordVPN
- Surfshark
- Private Internet Access (PIA)
If you experience any issues accessing your account without a private VPN, please contact our support team for assistance.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining the security of our systems. Your understanding and adherence to these guidelines are crucial in preventing potential malicious activities.
