Summary

Instructions for setting up Duo on a new mobile device, only if you still have access to your old mobile device.

Body

When to Use?

To connect a new phone to Duo Mobile, follow the instructions below. You must be able to access Duo on your old device or have the same phone number on your new device as your old one. If this is not the case, the instructions below will not work. If you do not have access to your old Duo Mobile or have a brand new phone number, please visit https://www.gvsu.edu/it/duo-multifactor-authentication-233.htm for more details.

Procedure

These instructions are for faculty and staff only and assume that you still have access to Duo Mobile on your previous device or other means of authenticating Duo, such as a hardware token.

  1. Download and install the Duo Mobile app on your device.
  2. If you are ON campus, proceed to Step 3.
    • If you are OFF campus and using a GVSU issued Windows computer, proceed to step 3. However, if you are OFF campus and using a personal device or a GVSU-provided macOS device, you will need to connect to the VPN via Ivanti Secure Access VPN.

      1. When prompted by Pulse Secure for your Secondary Password, enter SMS and hit enter. Ivanti Secure Access VPN will display an error message (which you can ignore) and you'll receive a text message from Duo with a code.

      2. Enter the text message’s verification code as your Secondary Password and the VPN should connect within a few seconds.

Note: If you are off campus AND your phone number has changed, this will not work. Please follow "Re-enroll Duo" button located here: Duo Multi-factor Authentication

  3. Navigate to https://intranet.gvsu.edu/networkauth/ and sign in with your GVSU credentials.
    • Select "Duo Universal MFA." On the following screen, select "Verify."
    • Duo defaults to the last used authentication method (for example, Duo push if used last). If so, select "Other options" and look for the phone call option or text message option.

Note: you will be prompted for a duo authentication which is why you needed access to your old device as previously indicated. If your new device has the same cell phone number as your old device select "Phone Call" or "Text message passcode".

Other options to log in     Check for Duo Push

  4. Once authenticated, select "My Dashboard" from the Network Authorizations website.

  5. Click the “Request Access” button under “DUO Multi-Factor Authentication for VPN”, as shown below.in the user dashboard click the Request Access button under Duo Multifactor Authentication

  6. Select your phone’s platform and make sure the phone number is correct, then click “Submit”. This will send a text message to your new phone.

  7. Tap the link within the text message to open it using the Duo Mobile application. This will connect the app to GVSU authentication system and you will be all set.
