Unable to connect to Blackboard with Respondus 4.0

When to Use?

If you are attempting to connect to Blackboard with Respondus 4.0 and are unable to connect. 

Procedure

Please ensure you are using Respondus version 4.09.02 or later.  You can check the version in Help | About.  The 4.09.02 installation executable can be found in the Respondus organization in Blackboard.  

Instructions for updating the Respondus 4.0 server settings are below.  Also available in attached PDF

  1. Open Respondus 4.0.
  2. Select the “Retrieval + Reports” tab and click “Retrieve Questions”.

  1. In the Retrieve Questions Wizard window click the Blackboard Server dropdown menu and select “-add new server-“.

  1. In the Add New Server Settings window click “Yes, check for preconfigured server settings” and then click the “Next” button.

  1. Follow the instructions to automatically setup the server information for the new Blackboard LMS.
  • In field number 1 enter: GVSU LMS Server
  • In field number 2: Click the “Save my User Name and Password” checkbox.
  • In field number 3: Click the “Run connection test” checkbox.
  • Click the “Next” button.

The wizard should look similar to the following.

  1. In the Respondus window click “OK”.

  1. In the Blackboard Authorization window that opens click “OK” and then select the “Sign in to the GVSU LMS” button.
  2. Enter your GVSU Username and Password and then click “Sign In”. Complete the DUO Multifactor Authentication to verify your identity and Blackboard’s Ultra Base Navigation page should open.
  3. At the top right of the Blackboard Authorization window click the “Close After Login” option.

  1. In the Respondus window click “OK”.
  2. In the Preconfigured Server Settings window confirm that the Connection Test “Completed Successfully” and then click “Next”.

  1. Click “Finish”.
  2. To confirm that your new server settings are now configured correctly, click “Next” in the Retrieve Questions window, and repeat steps #5 thru #9 listed above.
  3. In the window that opens you should be able to “Choose a Course to Retrieve from” and “Select an Exam or Pool”.

  1. Click “Cancel”. Your new “GVSU LMS Server” profile has been setup and configured. Use the newly created server profile when either Publishing or Retrieving exams in your courses.
