Name Change Instructions (Faculty/Staff Accounts)

When to Use?

Instructions given to faculty/staff when their account's username/email address change is complete.


If you have a GVSU Windows Computer:

  • Some Windows applications create shortcuts for recently accessed files/folders for quick access & recent documents. Some of the network paths no longer exist (they’ve moved, so the shortcuts are wrong). To clear out invalid shortcuts, there is a process you will have to complete on your computer:
  1. Please restart your computer or log off and back on to update group policy settings.
  2. Navigate to the location below and run the script recent destinations reset. It will reset recent documents and save-to locations for MS Office, Acrobat, etc.
    1. \\\dfs\GVSU-Software\WINDOWS USER RESET
  3. Restart your computer again.
  • The display name in outlook will not update automatically. Here are the instructions for how to resolve that:
  1. Close Outlook.
  2. In the search bar, search for the Control Panel and open it.
  3. Click Mail (Microsoft Outlook).
  4. Click on Email Accounts…
  5. Click New… and add your new email address.
  6. Click your old email address and click Remove.

If you have a GVSU Mac Computer:

  • No further steps necessary.
