Downloading and Installing Microsoft Office 365 Applications

When to Use?

Use when a currently enrolled student or currently employed faculty/staff member needs to download Microsoft Office 365 applications on a personal device.

Procedure

Start by downloading the application installer.

1. Click this link to visit the Office 365 Website.

2. Enter your GVSU email address into the Email, phone, or Skype field.

3. Enter your network account (email) password into the Password field.

4.  On the left side of the page click the Apps button.

4b. Click on More apps.

4c. In the top right corner of the page click the Install apps dropdown menu, then click Microsoft 365 apps.

5. Click Install Office to begin downloading the Office 365 application installer.

After the Office 365 application installer finishes downloading, you will need to begin the installation process.  Please click on the section below that corresponds with your computer's operating system.

 

Windows Installation Process

1. Open File Explorer by pressing the Windows key (⊞) + E key on your keyboard at the same time.

2. In the File Explorer window click on Downloads under Quick Access

Note: Downloads can also be found by clicking This PC and double-clicking (two left mouse clicks in succession) Downloads from the list of folders that appear.

3. Inside the Downloads folder double-click OfficeSetup to start the installation process.

4. If you receive an Open File - Security Warning pop up window, click Run.

5. If you receive a User Account Control pop up window click Yes.

6. The installation process will run automatically.  Once the installation has been completed click Close on the You're all set! window.

7. If you're signed into your Windows PC with a Microsoft account, you may notice that it's automatically signed into Office apps when you first open them. Look for your personal Microsoft account address, and click Change.

8. When prompted, sign in with your @gvsu.edu or @mail.gvsu.edu account.

9. Your Office Apps should now be activated with your GVSU Microsoft 365 account.

 

Microsoft Office 365 applications have now been installed. 

Note: You may need to restart your computer to use these applications.
