Adding a Network Printer to Your Windows Computer

Problem

This article will show you the steps needed to add a network printer to your Windows computer.

Environment

The steps are shown for any Windows computer setup with an office image.

Resolution

  1. Once you are logged in to your machine, locate the folder titled "GVSU Printers", double click that to open.


     
  2. The folder will open and list all departments, locate your department and double click to open.


     
  3. After double clicking on your department, a list of available printers is shown.


     
  4. Double click on the printer you wish to install; a new window will open letting you know the printer is being installed. Click OK to close this window.


     
  5. When the installation has completed, you will see another window open letting you know the process has been completed. Click OK to close this window.


     
  6. To verify the printer is installed, click the Windows button on the bottom left corner of your screen, this will open a menu, click the Settings icon.


     
  7. Once the settings page is open, click on Devices to open.


     
  8. After clicking on Devices, you will see Printers & Scanners listed on the left side, click on this. You will now see the list of installed printers on your computer.


     
  9. To test your installation, click on the printer you just installed, you will see some choices open under the name. 


     
  10. Click on Manage, a new window will open for the installed printer, you will see on the left side, "Print a test page", click on that.


     
  11. You will find the test page on the printer and the installation is complete.
     

Cause

You will use these steps when adding a network printer to your list of installed printers, this may need to be done for new employees or if a new network printer is added to your department.
