Sending Encrypted Emails via Outlook Web Access (OWA)

When to Use?

If you need to protect an email's contents, using Outlook Web Access (OWA) in your web browser offers the most consistent experience whether you're using a Mac or PC.

Procedure

How to Send

  1. In Outlook on the Web (OWA), create a new mail message
Outlook Web View clicking the New Mail button
  2. With the new message open, click the Options tab
  3. Click the Lock icon and choose the desired option
    1. Encrypt: encrypts the message
    2. Do Not Forward: encrypts and prevents the message from being forwarded to others
Outlook web mail clicking the options menu and then the encryption lock
  4. Fill out your recipients, subject and message body and send as you would a normal email

What the Recipient Sees In...

OWA and Outlook for Windows (GVSU Employee)

As a GVSU Employee, you'll automatically see the encrypted message automatically when using OWA or the Outlook for Windows desktop application:

Non-GVSU Outlook Accounts (Gmail, etc.)

GVSU Students, and non-GVSU recipients will receive a link to view the encrypted message:
