Overview
Use the Erase All Content and Settings feature to quickly and securely reset your GVSU Mac. This is useful when preparing your device for reassignment, troubleshooting persistent app issues, or returning your computer.
This process can be completed on your own and no appointment with IT Services is required.
Erasing your Mac removes all user data, apps, and settings while keeping the currently installed version of macOS.
Before You Begin
Back up your data - Save all important files to OneDrive, a network drive, or an external backup.
Request Administrator Privileges - Submit a TDX request for admin privileges.
Internet connection required - You will need an active internet connection to complete the reset.
Steps to Erase Your Mac
From the Apple menu in the corner of your screen, choose System Settings. Click General in the sidebar, then scroll down on the right and click Transfer or Reset. Click Erase All Content and Settings.
Enter your Mac password when prompted.
Review the items that will be removed.
Click Erase All Content & Settings to confirm you want to proceed.

What Happens Next
Your Mac will restart and begin the erase process.
All data, apps, and user settings will be permanently erased.
The computer will return to the Setup Assistant screen, similar to when it was first unboxed.
After the Reset
Returning your computer - Your data is security removed and can not be recovered. Return your computer to IT Services for disposal or repurposing.
Setting up your device again - Proceed through Setup Assistant and sign in with your credentials when prompted. Follow Welcome to Your Mac for more information.
