Requesting an Alternate Arrival


While we encourage students to move in on their scheduled day to balance our campus traffic, we allow flexibility for those who need to move in on a different day. Please note that some dates result in a $45/night charge. 

The Alternate Arrival Form Form opens Thursday, August 1, and closes Sunday, August 18. 
The form is available through: Banner > myHousing > Apply|Cancel|Forms > Alternate Arrival Form.

Please note: residents cannot move in before Tuesday, August 20, unless they are part of a pre-approved GVSU-sponsored group, such as GV athletic teams, housing/dining student employees, band camp, specific academic programs, etc. Directors/leaders for these programs provide Housing with these participants in advance. Not all groups cover the fees for coming to campus early, so confirm with your group leader if they are paying for you to arrive early.

No early arrivals will be approved, for any reason, for residents living in contracted off-campus units located in Campus West or 48 West.

Important Considerations
  • Helping Hands volunteers are only available at buildings on their assigned move-in day. Allow additional time for move-in without assistance from our volunteers or staff.
  • If your alternate arrival plans change, return to the myHousing portal to update/cancel your request.
  • Alternate Arrival requests are per student, not per room. Each resident needs to submit their own form for an Alternate Arrival.
  • No long-term or overnight guests (including other roommates not approved for Alternate Arrival) are allowed in campus housing before scheduled move-in dates.
  • Check-in times and locations vary by date of arrival.
    • If arriving during regular move-in hours (9:00am-4:00pm, Tuesday 8/20 through Thursday 8/22), you will be routed through the move-in traffic queues.
    • If arriving outside regular move-in hours. you will check in at your building’s Front Desk Location.
  • Alternate Arrival requests are due through the online form by Sunday, August 18.
  • If you need to submit a request after this date, or have questions, please email housing@gvsu.edu.

Winter Hall Front Desk (Downtown/Pew Campus)

A minimum of a 3-week stay for the posted rate of the assigned style of unit. 

Monday, August 12, through Monday, August 19

Students in a pre-approved roster for a GVSU-Sponsored group/team/activity/campus job.

Holton-Hooker Front Desk (Allendale North Campus)

South Campus Residential Desk (Allendale South Campus)

Winter Hall Front Desk (Downtown/Pew Campus)

Ranges from $45 to $360 (may or may not be covered by approval-sponsoring department)

Regular/Assigned Move-In Dates: Tuesday, August 20, through Sunday, August 25

All registered residents

Arrive during posted move-in hours (9am-4pm), you will be routed through the move-in traffic queues. 

If arriving after 4pm, go to the Front Desk Location for your assigned building.
