Submitting a Maya Project for Rendering

When to Use?

This article explains how to properly prepare and submit your Autodesk Maya project for rendering.

Prerequisites

Before submitting your project, ensure the following requirements are met:

1. Project Folder Structure

  • Your project folder must follow this naming convention:
    Name_FVP###_(Assignment)
    • Example: John_FVP323_A2
  • All default Maya subfolders must remain unchanged (e.g., scenes, images, sourceimages, etc.).

2. Scene File Naming

  • Scene files that need to be rendered must follow this format:
    • Name_Assignment_cam1.mb
    • Name_Assignment_cam2.mb
    • Or
    • Name_Assignment_camera1.mb
    • Name_Assignment_camera2.mb
  • Example:
    • John_A2_cam1.mb
    • John_A2_camera2.mb
  • Important: The rendering script identifies files based on the cam name (cam1, cam2, etc.), so proper naming is required.

Submitting Your Project

Step 1: Zip Your Project

  • Compress (zip) your entire project folder.
  • Ensure you are zipping the main project folder, not individual files.

Step 2: Upload Your Project

  1. Navigate to deck.clipper.gvsu.edu
  2. Log in with your credentials.
  3. In the top-left corner, click on Files.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  4. Open the Projects directory.
  5. Select the folder named render_projects.
  6. Open the Submitted Projects folder.
  7. Click the Upload button (top-right corner).Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
  8. Upload your zipped project folder.

What Happens Next

  • Once uploaded, the system will automatically:
    1. Extract your project.
    2. Move it to the Projects Rendering folder.
    3. Begin the rendering process.
  • No further action is required after uploading.

Accessing Completed Renders

  • After rendering is complete, your project will be moved to the Completed Rendered Projects folder.
  • Inside this folder, you will find:
    • Your rendered output files
    • A log file containing details about the rendering process
      • Review this file for any errors or issues encountered during rendering.
  • You can download your project folder by clicking the 3 dots to the right and clicking the download option.
  • Note: After 7 days of a project folder sitting in the completed projects directory it will be automatically deleted.
