How do I restore archived videos? a. Videos can be restored by visiting your Panopto archive. We have created a handout that demonstrates the process of restoring videos that have been archived. You can find that handout here.
Will I receive automatic alerts when my content is about to be archived? a. While there is no automatic alert system currently in place, Panopto plans to introduce email notifications for content at risk of archiving/deletion as early as March 2025.
Can I download my videos in bulk from Panopto? a. Unfortunately, bulk downloading is not supported on the Panopto platform. However, there is a feature request posted on Panopto's forums, which can be found here. Users can download videos individually; guidance can be found here.
Can IT download my videos in bulk? a. Individual downloads remain the method for users to backup their content. We are considering working with other areas of IT to develop a method for bulk downloading content.
What should I do to protect my videos for courses that I do not teach annually? a. We have updated the Panopto content retention policy to include an exemption status option. We are also working on creating a ticket for users to request consideration for an exemption. More information is available in the content retention knowledge base article here.
The ‘restore’ prompt is a little hard to notice. Is there any way it can be larger? a. We have submitted a feature request to Panopto to enhance the visibility of the "restore" button to better assist students in accessing archived content. More details can be found here.
How will this new policy be communicated to our Panopto creators? a. We are drafting semester reminders for instructors to review their content. Affected users have already been identified, ensuring targeted communication.
Is it possible to just delete all video content created during COVID? a. Video content will not be deleted until February 1st, 2026, which will primarily target inactive content created in 2020 and 2021. However, continuing deletion will be necessary to maintain storage limits. We are open to revisiting the policy on deletion criteria.
Where can I host or store my videos outside of Panopto? a. YouTube is recommended for users seeking to host their videos on an alternative viewing platform. We have developed a knowledge base article to assist with downloading from Panopto and uploading to YouTube, which can be found here. Alternative storage locations could include the user’s local drive, and external drive, or OneDrive.
