Making Goals Alignments to Rubric Rows and Test Questions

When to Use?

After Goals have been entered into Blackboard, course instructors, instructional designers and system administrators can make alignments to rubric rows and test questions.

NOTE: Goal alignments are typically reserved for accreditation purposes. Contact you Department coordinator/chair before making any Goal Alignments.

Procedure

Adding Goals to a Rubric Row

Goal Alignments will need to be made at the Rubric Row level for performance criterion reporting.

  1. Navigate to your Course and its Gradebook > Settings > Course Rubrics to view the course’s rubrics.

  1. Click on the name of the Rubric that you want to add Goal Alignments too.

  1. Locate the Criterion row to add the Goal Alignment. Click on the Align with goals link.

  1. This action will open the Discover Goals page. Use the left-hand column to locate your goals by:
  • selecting the appropriate area from Goal Set Type > Goal Set > Category OR
  • using the Search area and entering the Goal ID identifier (ex: ISLO, ENGL, BUS)

  1. Once you locate the goal(s) to add, check the box next to the goal statement (can be more than 1 goal selected) and click the Submit button.

  1. The selected Goals appear in the Goals & standards panel. To exit the panel and return to the rubric to make an alignment for another criterion, click on the X to close the window.

  1. When you return to the Rubric, the criterion row now indicates the number of goals that have been aligned.

Adding Goals to Individual Test Questions

Goals will need to be added at the individual question level in a Test or Question Bank. When adding alignments to Question Banks, these alignments carry over when the questions are pulled into a Test.

  1. Navigate to your Course Content page. Locate the Test to add Goal Alignments, click on the test’s more options icon and select Edit to open the test for editing.

NOTE: For Question Banks click the Manage Banks link in the Details & Actions menu to locate a Question Bank to add Goal Alignments.

  1. On the Test Content page that opens locate the question to add the Goal Alignment.
  2. Next, click on the question’s More Options icon and select Align with goal.

  1. This action will open the Discover Goals page. Use the left-hand column to locate your goals by:
  • selecting the appropriate area from Goal Set Type > Goal Set > Category OR
  • using the Search area and entering the Goal ID identifier (ex: ISLO, ENGL, BUS)

  1. Once you locate the goal(s) to add, check the box next to the goal statement (can be more than 1 goal selected) and click the Submit button.

  1. The selected Goals appear in the Goals & standards panel. To exit the panel and return to the test content to make an alignment for another question, click on the X to close the window.

  1. When you return to the test content, there is no indication that a Goal has been aligned to the question.

  1. Once all of the Goals have been aligned click the Goals & standards link to see a listing of all the aligned goals.
