Poor Internet Connection Effecting the Test

Summary

A poor internet connection can affect the users experience when taking an online exam.

Body

When to Use?

A poor Internet connection can significantly disrupt a Blackboard test that is taken using Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor. Issues like freezing, lagging, inability to submit answers, and the potential loss of test data due to an interrupted connection can prevent users from completing their exam. If your connection becomes unstable exit the Lockdown Browser, reset your Internet connection and relaunch the test.

Procedure

Recommended solutions include:

  • Restart your router and computer: Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connection issues.
  • Check your Wi-Fi signal strength: If using Wi-Fi, ensure you are close to the router and have a strong signal.
  • Close unnecessary applications: Shut down any programs not essential for taking the exam to minimize bandwidth usage.
  • Use a wired Ethernet connection: This provides the most stable and reliable connection for taking exams.
  • Contact your instructor about the issue as soon as possible, especially if you believe it significantly impacted your ability to complete the exam.
  • If the problem continues try using a different Internet connection.

If you are on a GVSU campus and having issues with one of GVSU’s network connections (wired or wireless) and require additional assistance, please contact IT Services at 616-331-2101 or submit a Service Ticket to Network & Connectivity Management.

If you are off campus and having trouble with your wired or wireless internet connection, please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for support and assistance.
