Run a Course Rubric Evaluation Report

Summary

The Rubric Evaluation Report gives you a clear, big-picture view of how your students performed across each part of a rubric for a graded assignment. It helps you quickly spot trends, like where students are doing well or where they may be struggling so you can make adjustments to your teaching or course design.

Body

When to Use?

The Rubric Evaluation Report gives you an aggregated view of how students performed against each criterion in a rubric for a graded activity. You can use the report to identify patterns across your whole class and use that insight to adjust your teaching or course design.

The report is available for any gradebook item that has a rubric associated with it and has grading data to draw from.

Procedure

Run the Rubric Evaluation Report

  1. Open the gradebook and go to either the Grades tab (grid view) or the Gradable Items tab.
  2. Locate the column for the graded activity you want to report on.
  3. Select the column menu and select Download Rubric Report.
  4. On the report configuration page, select your preferred Output format: PDF or CSV.
  5. Select Run Report.

If there is not enough grading data available, a message appears on the configuration page letting you know the report cannot be generated yet.

Understand the Report

The report is divided into four sections.

  • Overview: This section identifies the activity being measured, the rubric used, the rubric type, and the total number of student evaluations included in the report.
  • Rubric Overall Performance: This section shows the average score your students achieved against the total points possible. Use this to get a quick sense of how the class performed overall.
  • Rubric Analysis: This section displays a bar graph comparing the points possible for each rubric criterion to the average points students earned for that criterion.
  • Frequency Distribution: This table shows the percentage of students who reached each level of achievement for every criterion, along with statistical values including average, median, mode, and standard deviation. Use this section to answer specific questions about student learning.

Using EAC Rubric Reports for Deeper Performance Analysis

If more robust rubric performance data is needed, instructors can use EAC Visual Data to analyze results at the course, student, or multi-semester level. The EAC Rubric Report provides detailed insights into student performance on rubric-based assignments, supporting analysis at both the overall and criterion level, and is especially useful for identifying trends, reviewing grading patterns, and informing program assessment or accreditation efforts.
