When to Use?
Use this article to understand the changes you way see with the Outlook Web App (OWA) when a mailbox has been moved during GVSU's Microsoft 365 migration.
Common Issues and Troubleshooting
Traditional Outlook Web App Access (for mailboxes that have not been migrated):
- In a web browser, go to the old Outlook Web App login page (mail.exchange.gvsu.edu)
- Login using GVSU credentials
- You'll automatically be redirected to your Outlook Inbox
Note: If you receive a loading error during the redirect, first try to refresh the page. If this does not work, it may be a timing issue during the mailbox migration, and you'll need to wait to access OWA using the redirect link for several hours. In the meantime, close your browser, and navigate directly to the old Outlook Web App login page (mail.exchange.gvsu.edu) to access OWA.
Procedure After Migration to Microsoft 365:
- In a web browser, go to the new Outlook Web App Login page to (outlook.office.com)
- Login using your GVSU user name and password
- Username: userid@gvsu.edu
- Password: network password
- You'll automatically be redirected to your Outlook Inbox
Unreliable Redirects from Old Outlook Environment to New Microsoft 365 Environment:
If your mailbox has been moved to Microsoft 365, but you login to the older Outlook on the Web page, you may receive an error message along with a link redirecting you to the new Microsoft 365 website. These links should be considered unreliable, as they often will not redirect you without additional steps and troubleshooting required. Below is a list of what this process looks like, but please use the new Outlook Web App page (outlook.office.com), to avoid these errors.
- Navigate to the old Outlook Web App login page (mail.exchange.gvsu.edu)
- Login Using GVSU Credentials
- You will then be presented with a page stating "Use the following link to open this mailbox with the best performance:" along with a hyperlink
- Click the custom hyperlink
- Login to Exchange online using your GVSU user name and password
- Username: userid@gvsu.edu
- Password: network password
- You may be automatically redirected to your Outlook Inbox, or you may receive an error message during the redirect. Please use the new Outlook Web App page (outlook.office.com) to access your new mailbox to avoid these error messages.
