When to Use?
When attempting to install IrDA devices on a Windows 11 computer.
Procedure
1. Request administrator privileges for the computer. To do this, please follow the steps located in this knowledge document: Windows 11: How to Place an Administrator Escalation Request
2. Type PowerShell into the Windows search bar, then select the Run as Administrator option.

3. On the User Account Control pop-up window, click the Yes button.

4. In the PowerShell window, check and see if the IrDA service is enabled with this command: Get-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0".

4. If the service is listed as NotPresent, it will need to be installed. You can install it using this command: Add-WindowsCapability -Online -Name "Network.Irda~~~~0.0.1.0". When the command starts, you will see a blue progress bar at the top of the window.
Note: The installation process may take 30 minutes or more.

Once the installation finishes, you will see the following message. What you want to see is Online: True, this means the installation was successful and the IrDA service has been enabled.

5. Restart the computer to complete the installation. The RestartNeeded line may say False, but best practice is to let all the changes finalize with a restart.
ACT-IR2002UL Dongle Driver Installation
1. Plug the Actisys dongle into one of the USB ports on the computer you're using.

2. Click the following link to download the dongle software: ACT-IR2002UL.
3. Open the file explorer by pressing the Windows key and the E key on your keyboard simultaneously.

4. Navigate to the Downloads folder.

5. Inside the Downloads folder, right-click on ACT-IR2002UL.zip and select Extract All...

6. Click the Extract button.

7. In the new File Explorer window, double-click on the ACT-IR2002UL folder.

8. Double-click on setup.exe.

9. Click Ok on the User Account Control screen.

10. The installation will proceed automatically. When you see the following screen, click the Finish button.

11. Restart the computer one more time to ensure everything is installed and ready to go.
The setup process is now complete; the dongle's green activity light should be flashing every 5 seconds or so. If the light is not flickering, please call the service desk at 616-331-2101 and ask for a ticket to be created for the Enterprise Architecture team.
