Summary

Compressing images in PPTX files to help save Course Quotas in Blackboard.

Body

When to Use?

If your course is running low on space but the items in the course's Content Collection are needed and in use, you can compress the images in a file. This is specifically for PowerPoint (pptx) files.

Procedure

  • Open the original PowerPoint file in the Microsoft Office PowerPoint application
  • Once open, select File > Compress Pictures
  • A box similar to this should display:

Compress Pictures

  • Change the "Picture Quality" to your liking (Suggest using On-Screen)

Picture Quality

  • Select OK
  • Save the file (File > Save As) again with a new name
  • This file should now be smaller than the original one

Replace the File in Blackboard with the Compressed File

  • Navigate back to your Blackboard course where the file is located
  • Click the … and choose to edit the item
  • Select the Replace button, and choose the reduced file
Replace file button on edit page
  • Click Save
  • You should now see the newly reduced-size file attached to the content item
  • Repeat steps as needed
