Room Changes After Move-In

You are encouraged to work with your Resident Assistant and Community Director staff to address any roommate concerns or facility issues you may be experiencing.

To be placed on the Room Change Waitlist, you must speak to your current Community Director. Please note that room change requests are:

  • reviewed on a case by case basis,
  • not guaranteed,
  • only granted once per academic year,
  • based on availability due to limited space.

Students requesting a room change are taking a chance that the offered unknown/unseen space will ultimately be better than their current living situation. GVSU cannot provide information about students living in a space with an available bed/room (including room number, name, and contact information) for the safety of the residents living in the unit.

General Process:

  1. Resident meets with Community Director.
  2. If next on the waitlist, and a room that meets preferences becomes available, the resident will be notified via GVSU email by the Housing Office.
  3. If resident accepts room change offer, resident will work with Housing Office to complete the logistics of the room change and complete the move.
  4. If approved to move, the student will need to complete the move within the required time frame outlined in the room change offer/conversation with the Housing Office (generally, the resident will only have 2-3 days to complete the move).
  5. GVSU/Housing staff will not assist students with physically moving them or their belongings.
  6. It is the resident's responsibility to be aware of any billing implications related to a room change (i.e. moving to a new community or style). To review the cost of various housing styles, see our Housing Rates
