When to Use?
Globus provides an environment for file transfers between systems registered by participating organizations and can be used to copy data between GVSU's High-Performance Computing Cluster "Clipper" and a workstation. It is accessible with a GVSU login.
Globus should not be used to transfer sensitive data. Grand Valley State University does not subscribe to High Assurance data transfers or any premium services.
Setup


- If Globus requests access, click Allow

Install the Globus Client
- Click on the COLLECTIONS tab on the left side of the window

- Click on Get Globus Connect Personal at the top right of the window

- Select the appropriate installer


Transferring Files

- Select the desires location to put or get files
- Browse to the desired folder by double-clicking on the appropriate folder icons

- Do the same for the remote (not-Clipper) system. In this case, search for your workstation's collection

- Click on the desired collection

- Browse to the appropriate folder

- Select the files to copy and click on the Start button that points in the direction the data be copied

- Click refresh list on the target collection to see the copied file

Troubleshooting
Workstation Collection Unavailable
- Symptoms
- You receive the error Unable to connect to Globus Connect Personal when selecting to your workstation's collection
- Your workstation's collection has a red icon on the Globus site

- Remediation
- The Globus Connect Personal application may need to be started
- Windows: Search for and click on Globus Connect Personal in the Start menu
- Mac: Click on Globus Connect Personal in you Applications folder
- Firewall ports may need to be opened to connect to Globus
Data Transfer Does Not Complete
- Symptoms
- The data transfer starts, but
- A file has 0 bits of data on the target collection
- There are repeated connection reset errors in the data transfer job's event logs
- Remediation
- A firewall at the may be blocking ports needed to connect to the Clipper environment
