When to Use?
Use the following Course ID naming convention for Genius SIS (upskilling.gvsu.edu) and Blackboard when creating Templates and Sections.
Templates
Templates are used for creating the course content in Blackboard. Templates are copied into Sections.
Templates should be given Course ID's following the naming conventions of:
CE.TEMPLATE.SHORT_COURSE_NAME
Where SHORT_COURSE_NAME can be replaced with a few words representing the name of the course.
e.g. For Children of Trauma & Resilience, the SHORT_COURSE_NAME is CHILD_TRAUMA. So the Template ID is: CE.TEMPLATE.CHILD_TRAUMA
Sections
Sections are created in Genius as copies of a Template. There can be multiple sections for each template (e.g. a new section for each year).
Sections should be given Course ID's following the naming conventions of:
CE.SHORT_COURSE_NAME.YEAR
Where SHORT_COURSE_NAME is the same as the Template SHORT_COURSE_NAME
And YEAR is specific to year(s) the section will be used.
e.g. For Children of Trauma & Resilience, the SHORT_COURSE_NAME is CHILD_TRAUMA. So the Section ID for 2024 is: CE.CHILD_TRAUMA.2024
