When to Use?

This guide is used as a first step when receiving suspicious pop-ups or notifications in your Browser. Often, these notifications appear as "fake viruses" or "fake software updates." Below is a step-by-step guide for the best and safest route in handling these types of unwanted notifications and pop-ups.

Procedure

Chrome Browser
 

  1. Click the three dots, located in the right hand corner, by your profile icon.

  2. Select "Settings"

  3. Click "Privacy and security" from the left hand column.

  4. Click "Pop-ups and redirects" at the bottom of the page.

  5. Check your settings.
     
    Set to "Don't allow sites to send pop-ups or use redirects" and remove unwanted sites listed that would be listed under "Customized behaviors"

    NOTE: To remove site simply click "remove" instead of "add."

Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the three dots, located in the right hand corner, by your profile icon.

  2. Select "Settings"

  3. Click "Cookies and site permissions" from the left hand column.
     
  4. Scroll down, click "Notifications" towards the bottom of the page.

  5. Check your settings. 

    Set to "Ask before sending", "Quiet notification requests" and block any unwanted sites.

    NOTE: To remove site simply click "remove" instead of "add".

  6. Go back to site permissions. Click on "Pop-ups and redirects"

  7. Check your settings. 

    Set to "Block", and block any unwanted sites.
